What are overdraft fees?

Overdraft fees are charges imposed when an account holder spends more money than is available in their account and the transaction is still processed.

Essentially, if you make a purchase or withdrawal that exceeds the balance in your account, the bank may cover the transaction on your behalf, resulting in a negative balance. In return for this service, the bank charges an overdraft fee.
