What is ABA/Routing Number and where do I find it?

An ABA (American Bankers Association) number, also known as a routing number, is a unique identification code assigned to each financial institution in the United States. It's primarily used for domestic transfers within the U.S.

You can find your bank's routing number in several places:

  1. Bank Statement: Your routing number is typically listed on your bank statement.
  2. Online Banking: Most banks provide routing numbers in the online banking portal. Look for a section labeled "Account Information" or "Account Details."
  3. Check: Your bank's routing number is printed on the bottom left corner of your checks. It usually consists of nine digits and is followed by your account number and the check number.
  4. Bank Website: Some banks also list their routing numbers on their official websites. You may need to navigate to the "Contact Us" or "Customer Service" section to find it.
  5. Customer Service: If you're unable to find the routing number through the methods mentioned above, you can contact your bank's customer service department for assistance.

It's important to ensure you have the correct routing number when initiating transactions, as errors in this number can lead to delays or misdirected funds.

In many cases, you will need to get the ABA number of the intermediary bank of the final receiving bank of an international transaction.
